HONORED VETERANS

He was a well-decorated veteran, a charming old man of 93
Who was on his last legs, yet extremely happy; a true mystery.
He could have cried and said, “Oh, my life’s hard, poor me!”
Instead, he smiled broadly and said, “HOWDY!” and ‘WHOOPEE!”

His daughter was so proud of his time, of his presence there
With her, in his last earthly years, so they went everywhere.
He was always handsome, sporty, well-dressed and groomed too,
Especially his newly-cut hair with its’ glowing silvery-white hue.

Into family restaurants she took him with pride and great glee,
Observing pleasurably, as he greeted folks with contagious hilarity.
He used a cane, and taped thereon was an ‘ooga’ horn with a loud sound.
He squeezed it constantly, creating laughter, while making his rounds.

To each table he would go, with a grin, gently waving his hand
He would wait patiently, show courtesy, too, silently stand
He greeted all with insight and a joyous smile all his own,
Giving delight by the strength and ongoing faith that was shown.

Once acknowledged, he went into action, alive, joyous, anew
His time in the military gave him comfort, hope, and strength too
Greeting young and old with frivolity, he pumped the horn loud
Hoping to bless with laughter and fun, each one in the crowd.

Customers stopped mid-sentence; happily surprised to see
Ray contacting all, sharing hope, speaking to strangers with hospitality.
No matter the problems each customer had known in life and faced
He stopped time when he shared John 3:16 and God’s saving grace.

He’s gone to heaven now, and his memory will always be known
Here in the restaurants and remembered for kindness he’s shown.
He focused on ways of cheering folks, not his own challenging cares
His beautiful life reflected the peace and faith that he always shared.

IN HONOR OF ALL OF OUR GLORIOUS VETERANS OF EVERY WAR.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosover believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
John 3:17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but
that the world, through Him, might be saved.”
