As you travel along

road with sunset

-- By John Willis

As you travel along in your daily toil
Keep love in your heart - in your eyes a smile.
Give a word of cheer to those who are blue;
A warm handclasp will help some, too;
A wave of the hand, a cheery "Good Day"
To those you may meet or pass by the way...
As you travel along.

Start in the day with a word of prayer,
As the birds trill notes to the morning air.
Let your prayer be to God, like their songs to Heaven,
Thankful for life and the blessings given;

Be the best of whatever you are

-- By Douglas Malloch

If you can't be a pine on the top of the hill,
Be a scrub in the valley - but be
The best little scrub by the side of the hill;
Be a bush if you can't be a tree.

If you can't be a bush, be a bit of the grass,
Some highway happier make;
If you can't be a muskie, then just be a bass -
But the liveliest bass in the lake!

We can't all be captains, we got to be crew,
There's something for all of us here,
There's big work to do, and there's lesser to do,

Walking in the Rain

silhouette in rain

-- By Al Albrecht, Home Spun Poems

I love walking in the rain,
Listening to its pitter pat.
As it falls so softly,
Upon my old felt hat.

To smell the freshness in the air,
As is gently falls to earth,
Bringing freshness to everything,
And giving forth new birth.

As it causes seeds to sprout,
And everything to grow,
It washes off God's pretty greens,
In winter, it is snow.

I love to walk out in the rain,
What peace comes to my soul.

Weep Not For Me

-- By Constance Jenkins

Weep not for me though I am gone;
into that gentle night.
Grieve if you will but not for long,
upon my soul's sweet flight.

I am at peace,
my soul's at rest.
There is no need for tears.
For with your love I was blessed;
for all those many years.

There is no pain,
I suffer not,
The fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts.
In your memory I live on.

Remember not my fight for breath;

DESIDERATA

child staring up at the universe

-- Written by Max Ehrmann in 1927

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.
